Venue: Imber Court It was a 12:30 kick off as Cheam entertained Bedfont Green at ember court. Ralph and Dave opted to start with a 4-4-1-1 formation which has been familiar to the boys this season as it has proved successful in the past. It was a slow start to the game as no team took control until Cheam decided to play some football and started to take control as a few half chances went begging As Cheam were on top, we made the pressure count as Shaun Hickey tucked away a great finish from a defensive splitting pass by Ozzy Obiedalla a deserved lead by Cheam half way though the first half. Cheam carried on the good football and limited Bedfont Green to a few dangerous crosses which keeper Ali dealt with very comfortably. As the half progressed the game turned a bit vicious as a few tackles went flying in especially from Sammy C in which another day he could of got sent off. As predicted Bedfont tried to disrupt the football with aggressive language towards our players but did not work as Cheam went into the interval 1-0 up playing the better football. The second half began, as Cheam were told to carry on playing good football by Dave and Ralph and not to retaliate to Bedford as we have a reputation with 4 red cards on 4 games. I wonder where we got that reputation from?. As Bedfont were pushing for the equaliser the Cheam Town defence held strong leaving Ali with little to do. Cheam also looked for the their second goal to see off the match but it didn’t come due to an easy chance missed by myself. The game started to get a bit more vicious as a Bedfont player gave Stiofan Stevens a decent right hook but good old Stiofan made sure he got him back with a decent punch back. The ref had to take action and sent both players off which no one could complain. The game never really got going due to the fact the ref stopped the game every 5 minutes due to some aggressive play but suited us as we were still leading. The game came to a close as Cheam managed to take home three points which was much needed and boosted us up the table and a good performance was provided as well. A slow start but Cheam defiantly deserved all three points against a mouthy but talented Bedfont green. Match Report written by: Ryan Pepperrell (Centre Midfield) |
