18/11/07 vs Corinthian Casuals FC | Print |  E-mail
Venue: Imber Court
Result: 0-0
KO- 13: 00 pm

A Local derby match. Having been dispossessed of our 3 points in which we picked up having hammered Hook youth 6-0 on match day 2, following their elimination from the league. Therefore this gave us more of an incentive take all 3 points against our below par rivals. We were becoming fired up and anticipating the kick off, however the strong winds and cold breeze through their air didn’t do us any favours.

With the managers Ralph Watson and Dave Owens opting with a new formation, (Starting from the defence)
3-1-5-1. this was the first time the squad had played this formation this season, and as the game started it showed, as we weren’t adapting to the formation and style of play that was asked of us. Cheam Town had started off slow as we were trapped in our own half for the first 10 minutes of the match but Corinthian Casuals weren’t good enough to capitalise on their period pressure and failing to get a goal, As Ali wasn’t really troubled this was due to good defending by the back line, Chris Richards, Stiofan Stevens and Nick Beck.

However as the half went on we became stronger but yet failed to step up a gear into the form that we had been showing the early goings of the season. Most of the play in the second half was in the middle of the park where Conor Stanton, Jamie Quiggy and Ryan Pepperall were patrolling the centre, winning the balls in the air and trying to put some passes together. Our poor start was summed up by the fact that we didn’t manage to work the keeper except for on 1 occasion which lead to the injury of their keeper. Neither keeper really tested, quite a dull half.

At half time the both the managers and the team realised that the formation wasn’t working and we went back to the usual formation of 4-4-2 which we felt comfortable with and this showed in the beginning of the second as we began to step up the gear and created a few chances yet no one on ones, but it was a positive response in contrast to the first half.

We were using the wings a bit more than in the first half and finally we got the break through when Jack Dixon was put through however failed to score from the good run that deserved a goal. We started to look more like the home side as we pushed for a winner, as Sean Hickey was put through but was unlucky to hit the side netting of the goal. It finished 0-0.

This wasn’t the best game for a neutral as it never really got going, but a draw was a fair result as we didn’t play to our best, but I’m sure next week they will be an improvement as we seek for another 3 points.
