Venue: Addlestone Moor Result: 2-1 KO - 10:30AM We started the match better than the last two, settling down early and getting our first touch going, most of the play in these opening minutes was in the centre of the park. Neither team had broken forward until Sean Hickey played a ball forward that landed for Alex Wynter to turn and run on to. Alex Wynter took a touch and shot from the edge of the box. The ball struck the post and deflected into the back of the net for a 1-0 Cheam Town lead. Abbey Rangers battled to get an equaliser but our mid-field and defence were up to the challege. Stefan Stevens, Chrissy Richards, Nick Beck and Ozzie Obiedalla along with our goalkeeper Rob Leach held a tight back line and our midfield were peppering the ball up the field for our strikers to get some more shots off. Tony Dee was unfortunately booked for a challenge on one of the Abbey Rangers players but both teams were making some determined challenges. The second half got underway in much the same way as the first half until Abbey Rangers won a corner. The corner kick was floated straight to the feet of an Abbey player for a toe poke into the net and to level the match at 1 – 1. Abbey Rangers had got their tails up and both teams were pushing for another goal, there were some meaty challenges being made one of which earned Sean Hickey a booking in the first half. Connor Stanton took a ball in the face and with his nose and lip bleeding had to go off to get cleaned up. By the time Connor returned and with 10 minutes to go Cheam Town were anxious for a winning goal when Sean Hickey was put through by a clever ball from either James Owens or Sammy C???, Sean dummied the keeper who went for the player rather than the ball leaving the Referee with no alternative but to award a penalty to Cheam Town. James Owens stepped up to convert, smashing the ball to the bottom left corner for a 2 – 1 Cheam Town lead. Cheam Town stayed tight and worked hard for the last 5 mins to maintain their lead, but through true grit and determination they held on and the match finished with a well deserved Cheam Town win. The Cheam Town players came off the pitch to rapturous applause from the management & parents alike.
