Venue: Colliers Wood From then on it seemed that we were going to dominate the game and run off with it. Nevertheless, we let them back into the game with a smash from point blank range. From the shock of Thames Bank 1st goal, Cheam never settled quickly enough, they were egar to take the lead. We allowed them to get a one on one chance with the keeper and with a good shot on goal it made it hard for Rob Leach and Cheam went down 2-1. Cheam realised that we had a game on our hands, so we really started to dominate the play by spreading the ball around the pitch. Then with a searching ball form the left into the box bouncing its way to the back post, who else but Sean Hickey placed the ball into the net making it 2-2. With Cheam back into the game there was a dubious challenged in the penalty box by Stefan Stevens which needed a replay however there was no camera watching at the time but the dodgy ref still gave a penalty. A well-placed penalty made it 3-2. Cheam kept on running out of luck but battled on. Alex Wynter took the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box and with a great turn from two players, put the ball bottom right hand corner, 3-3. After the miss-fortunate luck that went Cheams way, Sean Hickey striked the ball at the cross-bar not falling far from the feet of Conor Stanton who scored with an easy volley into an open goal, Cheam 4-3 up. From Thames Bank kick off, Conor Stanton took matters into his own hands and by pure instinct with the ball bobbling up, he sent the ball soaring into the air form the half way line, and over the keepers head and the ball bounced into the net, 5-3 up. What a goal!. Even if I do say so myself. In my opinion that goal killed off the game and deflated the opposition. Match Report written by : Conor Stanton (Centre Midfield) |
