16/09/07 vs Hook Youth | Print |  E-mail

Venue:  Imber court
 Result : 6 - 0

Today we started off a bit nervy, but after the first 15 minutes or so we started to settle down and start playing better football. Our first goal came from a corner which Chris Richards finished off with a good header. We kept on attacking and making scoring opportunities. The second goal came from a brilliant dazzling run into the penalty box by Connor Stanton  but unfortunately for him he overrun the ball but fortunately for Cheam Town Sammy C was there to put the ball in the net. Despite all of Hook Youth’s chances it was fortunate we had Rob Leach in goal who was on form, because he made some important saves through certain stages of the match. And Rob was rewarded with ‘Man of the Match’ for his efforts.

With more and more sustained pressure on Hook Youth, Cheam Town got a  well earned third goal which came about with a nice jinking run from Ozzy Obiedalla who set up Connor Stanton who then set up Sammy C who in turn took the ball and then made a dashing run into the penalty box to win Cheam Town a penalty which came from  a rather reckless challenge from a former Cheam town player (Ha Ha!!) , the penalty was taken by James Owens who placed the ball well in the back of the net. This put us in strong lead of 3-0 at the end of the first half.

The second half Hook Youth seemed more determined but on top of that so did we, we were playing some good attacking football and made lots of good one-two passes. Our forth was a goal to remember! It came about from a free kick which was taken by Sean Hickey from about 25 yards out from the goal line, it was probably in my opinion a contender for goal of the season, the ball was well struck which went straight into the top left hand corner leaving the Hook Goalkeeper static. Again we were applying pressure and kept on attacking and seemed more confident. The fith goal came about with a little scramble in the box but Connor Stanton won through with perseverance. The sixth and last goal of the game was created by Quiggy who made a good run through the defence and similar to the second goal, Quiggy took a shot that Alex Wynter finished off. All in all the team as a whole played well, in my opinion we can step up a whole new level as the season progresses, I believe also due to a lack of substitutes a few players had to play in different positions. But all in all we played well.
